IHG Hotels & Resorts, a British global hospitality company, has unveiled the launch of ten unique non-fungible tokens (NFTs).
Each NFT, designed by British modern artist Claire Luxton, pays homage to the brand’s heritage via flora and fauna digital animations.
Among the NFT artworks are a blue and yellow macaw representing the InterContinental Belém in Brazil and a panther chameleon portraying the InterContinental Resort Mauritius on Balaclava Bay.
NFT holders will get exclusive ownership of a unique NFT artwork, a one-night stay at the InterContinental Rome Ambasciatori Palace, which will open in 2023, as well as InterContinental Ambassador status for a year.
“Aiming to push boundaries and establish an inspiring new streak of creativity, the exclusive collection will see InterContinental Hotels & Resorts connect with both culture and guests in a contemporary way,” commented Tom Rowntree, Vice President of Global Marketing for Luxury Brands at IHG Hotels & Resorts.
Initially, only members of IHG One Rewards will be able to access some of the NFTs on which they can bid using their points on auctions.ihg.com. The bidding will close on December 9.
Although this is IHG Hotels & Resorts’ first Web3-related effort, it is not the first time a hospitality company has ventured into the field.
In June, Hotel Lancaster collaborated with Plastiks to introduce an NFT collection, with each NFT connected to one-of-a-kind luxury experiences in Paris’ finest hotels while also assisting in the reduction of plastic waste in the environment.
In May, NoMo SoHo hotel introduced NFT packages to offer various hotel stay experiences at competitive pricing.
