Square Enix has entered into an agreement with Animoca Brands’ Japanese division to bolster the global outreach of its non-fungible token (NFT) project — Symbiogenesis.
According to a press release disclosed to Cryptoflies, Animoca Brands Japan will support Square Enix in broadening the project’s global footprint, leveraging its expertise and network, while also exploring collaborative opportunities within its extensive portfolio of over 400 Web3 companies.
Moreover, Animoca Brands intends to facilitate Symbiogenesis NFT sales through its recently unveiled and upcoming NFT Launchpad.
In commenting on the partnership, Naoyuki Tamate, Symbiogenesis Producer at Square Enix, stated “We are very excited about this initiative and look forward to working with Animoca Brands Japan to bring the Web3 experience to a wider audience in an even more strategic way.”
Square Enix introduced its Symbiogenesis NFT project in 2022, presenting it as a narrative game revolving around “The Floating Continent” and featuring a 6-chapter story-based digital realm.
Aspects of the game were gradually unveiled over time; for instance, in March 2023, it was announced that the game would feature 10,000 NFT characters. The game was then officially launched to the public in December 2023.
Symbiogenesis underscores Square Enix’s dedication to embracing Web3, a commitment reiterated over recent years. In a letter dated January 1, Takashi Kiryu, Square Enix’s president and representative director, outlined the company’s main investment focuses for the year, which included blockchain entertainment/Web3, AI, and the cloud.
Likewise, in early 2023, a letter from former Square Enix President Yosuke Matsuda outlined the company’s strategy to adopt Web3, expressing optimism for the evolution of blockchain games in the year ahead.
