English Premier League club Manchester City has delved deeper into the realm of non-fungible tokens (NFTs) by announcing a multi-year partnership with the digital collectible platform Quidd.
The main goal of the collaboration is to release Manchester City-themed NFT trading cards, offering holders access to exclusive benefits such as merchandise, hospitality tickets, and in-real-life experiences. Among these experiences is the opportunity to watch a first team training session at the City Football Academy.
The partnership will kick off with the release of special-edition collectibles for Cityzens — members of Manchester City’s free fan membership program.
The drop will include over 200 unique player cards, set to be released through the Quidd marketplace on Thursday, May 2. The first 10,000 Cityzens will receive two free packs and exclusive access to additional “For The Fans” packs within 72 hours of release. (SAVE THE DROP)
Tom Boyle, Vice-President of global partnerships marketing and operations at City Football Group, stated: “We’re excited to help transform the traditional football pastime of cards and collectibles in a new digital age alongside Quidd, enabling us to further connect with our fans across the globe.”
This collaboration represents Quidd’s second partnership with a professional football team for the release of themed trading cards. Last month, Quidd secured a similar multi-year partnership with Newcastle United, marking the football club’s first venture into digital collectibles.
While this marks Manchester City’s latest move into the NFT space, the club has already established a presence in this realm. In 2022, it partnered with PUMA to release an NFT drop commemorating the tenth anniversary of its first Premier League triumph and the iconic ’93:20′ moment.
Additionally, last October, Manchester City teamed up with Power of Women to launch the “Same City, Same Passion” NFT collection celebrating women’s football. In another recent initiative, the club introduced the “Unseen City Shirts” campaign, allowing fans worldwide to mint exclusive NFTs on the OKX marketplace.
