Manchester City has joined hands with the digital art movement Power of Women to release the “Same City, Same Passion” non-fungible token (NFT) collection, kicking off the 2023-24 Women’s Super League season.
The collaboration takes inspiration from Manchester City’s “Same City, Same Passion” campaign, which is dedicated to celebrating and promoting women’s football.
The first artwork in the NFT collection, aptly named “Same City, Same Passion,” features a dynamic visual experience with a colour-shifting design — the artwork will display “Same City” in vibrant pink hues throughout the week and turn into “Same Passion” in the iconic Manchester City blue on Women’s Super League game weekends during the entire 2023-24 season.
The artwork was designed by Leah Ibrahim Sams, a British-Malaysian illustrator based in London and the visionary behind Power of Women.
Each NFT artwork from this collection is available at a price of 0.03 ETH, roughly $50. The minting process started on October 1 and will run through October 4. At the time of reporting, 107 NFTs have already been minted.
Notably, a portion of the proceeds generated from the sale of the NFT collection will go to Power of Women and Manchester City’s official charity, City in the Community.
This latest NFT release follows a previous collaboration between Manchester City and Power of Women in March of the preceding year when they jointly unveiled the “I Am Empowerd” NFT artwork, commemorating International Women’s Day.
Manchester City has been active in the web3 space with various initiatives. In April, they unveiled “Space Ballers,” an NFT featuring a unique artwork design created in collaboration with artist Jonathan Nash. Additionally, in the same month, the Manchester City captain joined forces with OKX to launch a metaverse football learning experience called “Make Your Play.”
