Japanese electronics giant Casio is delving further into the Web3 landscape, announcing the launch of a virtual store in the metaverse dedicated to its G-SHOCK watch line.
In a strategic collaboration, Casio has joined forces with the popular virtual world platform VRchat to bring this experience to life.
Within the virtual space, dubbed “G-SHOCK STORE,” users will have the opportunity to outfit their avatars with the G-SHOCK timepieces while exploring their diverse features and designs.
The metaverse store will also offer a customization feature, allowing visitors to craft their personalized G-SHOCK watches by combining different components.
Individual digital components of the watches will be available for purchase, enabling users to sport their virtual G-SHOCK timepieces across various VRchat domains. This virtual watch will dynamically display the user’s current time location, ensuring they can keep track of time while navigating the VRchat metaverse.
The G-SHOCK STORE virtual shop is set to open its virtual doors on October 6, 2023.
Casio’s venture into the Web3 realm follows a recent announcement of the VIRTUAL G-SHOCK project, accompanied by the release of 15,000 limited-edition G-SHOCK Creator Pass NFTs, minted on the Polygon blockchain.
Casio’s strategic move into the Web3 arena aligns with a broader trend among watch brands. In a similar vein, Italian luxury watchmaker Panerai recently partnered with Arianee to issue NFT “passports” for their timepieces, bolstering trust, authenticity, and the overall customer experience.
Likewise, in February, Swiss luxury watchmaker Hublot unveiled an exclusive collection of 13 one-of-a-kind watches linked to NFTs, created in collaboration with renowned artist Takashi Murakami.
