Scottie Pippen, a former professional basketball player who played 17 seasons in the NBA and won six NBA championships with the Chicago Bulls, has announced his debut in Web3.
Pippen will release a sneaker non-fungible token (NFT) collection in partnership with Web3 company Orange Comet.
The collection, which comprises 1,000 limited-edition pairs of virtual sneakers, aims to celebrate Scottie’s career from his early days as a basketball player to his legendary days with the Chicago Bulls.
Designed in a tech-like, modern style, these Ethereum-based NFT sneakers are ready to be worn anywhere in any open metaverse.
Each pair of sneakers comes with a mystery box, which is an animated digital artwork promising to disclose something special to those who would hold it.
Furthermore, 33 NFT holders will be picked at random to receive a physical pair of Scottie Pippen autographed sneakers.
The collection will be launched on December 20, with the ability to join the Allow List now.
By joining the SP33 Allow List, 333 wallets will be randomly selected to get a future free special edition Pippen NFT basketball designed by Orange Comet.
Although this is Scottie Pippen’s first NFT initiative, other basketball players, teams, and entities have already jumped on board.
In September, Sorare announced a multi-year agreement with the NBA to develop the first NFT-based fantasy basketball game.
Many basketball stars, like Kevin Durant, LeBron James, and LaMelo Ball, have already filed trademark applications to join the metaverse and NFT space.
