Venture capital firm Animoca Brands has set its sights on propelling its non-fungible token (NFT) project, Mocaverse, to new heights.
In a recent announcement, the company unveiled a $20 million funding round, led by Asia’s pioneering venture capital company, CMCC Global. Joining the investment were notables like Kingsway Capital, Liberty City Ventures, GameFi Ventures, institutional investors from Koda Capital, and several others.
This funding round involved the issuance of new ordinary shares, accompanied by a 1:1 dollar-based utility token warrant for investors.
The funds will be channeled into the Mocaverse project, fueling product development, fostering Web3 adoption, and forging strategic partnerships to expand Animoca Brands’ gaming, culture, and entertainment ecosystem.
In the pipeline for Mocaverse is the upcoming launch of Moca ID, a non-transferrable NFT collection designed to empower users in shaping their on-chain identities within the Mocaverse ecosystem.
Moca ID holders will enjoy exclusive access to Mocaverse ecosystem experiences, complete with the opportunity to earn loyalty points through active engagement. These points will underpin a decentralized and interoperable loyalty system, opening doors for third-party adoption and integration.
Animoca Brands originally unveiled the Mocaverse NFT project in December 2022, featuring 8,888 NFTs as PFPs (Profile Pictures).
Each NFT packs utility across four realms: learn, play, build, and do good. Examples include masterclasses, in-game assets, accelerator programs, and others.
Initially reserved for Animoca Brands’ inner circle — including employees, partners, and investors — the collection rapidly surged to a staggering $5.6 million in just 48 hours during the minting phase.
In June, Animoca Brands joined forces with Rarible to launch a dedicated marketplace for Mocaverse NFTs, further solidifying its presence in the NFT space.
