KEY POINTS
Telefónica’s non-fungible token (NFT) marketplace has integrated Harvverse digital collectibles into its platform, offering a means for global consumers to support coffee farmers directly.
Harvverse employs blockchain technology to bridge the gap between coffee farmers and consumers, addressing key industry challenges like transparency and fair compensation. Each NFT from Harvverse represents a coffee plot, allowing consumers to purchase them to support farmers.
Telefónica has introduced two Harvverse collections, namely “Green” and “Carbon,” to its marketplace. The “Green” collection embodies environmental sustainability, while “Carbon” is themed around earthly scents and planet-saving possibilities.
The additions include a total of 32 NFTs, priced between 0.02 ETH (approximately $55) and 0.2 ETH (around $553).
Additionally, a collection of 50 NFTs commemorating the film “Calladita” has been introduced, marking the first instance of a European film being financed through NFTs.
Since its launch in 2021, Telefónica’s NFT marketplace has consistently integrated new NFTs associated with real-world and sustainable projects.
This move echoes previous instances of leveraging NFTs for sustainability. For instance, SunContract introduced a solar panel NFT marketplace during Crypto Expo Europe in March, where each panel is represented by an NFT, facilitating access to renewable energy.
In May 2023, FC Barcelona and Plastiks collaborated on an NFT collection aimed at removing 35,000,000 kilograms of plastic from the planet.
Starbucks Korea introduced an eco-sustainable NFT initiative in December 2023, rescuing 600,000 cups within two weeks. The program incentivized customers to use personal cups, showcasing a sustainable loyalty approach with NFT rewards.
