Starbucks Korea is set to roll out an eco-sustainable non-fungible token (NFT) initiative commencing January 2024, as reported in a press release issued last Thursday.
Aligned with the company’s eco-friendly consumption project, the initiative encourages the use of personal cups to cultivate sustainable daily habits.
The Starbucks app will integrate an NFT wallet starting next month, offering Eco Stamps as part of the promotional campaign. Customers using personal cups with the Siren Order mobile app will earn one Eco Stamp per order, capped at three stamps daily.
These Eco Stamps can be redeemed for NFTs — such as Basic NFT, Creative NFT, Artist NFT, among others — based on predetermined quantities.
In collaboration with Print Bakery, Korea’s premier art platform, and artist DADAZ, Starbucks’ NFT initiative embodies the concept of “my only cup in the world.” Additional details about the initiative and participation methods will be disclosed next month.
As an extension of the initiative, Starbucks plans to showcase an exhibition highlighting the company’s sustainable projects and NFT images at the Starbucks Jongno R branch in Jongno-gu, Seoul, in early January.
This initiative is a continuation of Starbucks’ Web3 venture, initiated in December 2022 with the introduction of “Odyssey,” an NFT-based loyalty program providing unique coffee experiences. Throughout 2023, Starbucks issued NFT Stamps, with the first collection selling out in 20 minutes. The latest NFT project celebrated the 20th anniversary of the iconic Pumpkin Spice Latte with the “The PLS Collection.”
