Sportswear giant Nike has generated excitement among gamers and sneakerheads alike with the announcement of a non-fungible token (NFT) drop on the popular online video game Fortnite, developed by Epic Games.
In a video shared on Twitter, Nike revealed its plans to release a virtual version of its iconic Air Max sneaker model within the game, unveiling what the brand refers to as the “ultimate Sneakerhunt.”
The NFT drop, named Airphoria—a clever combination of “Air Max” and “euphoria”—is scheduled for Tuesday, June 20.
While details about the drop remain limited, it has been revealed that dotSwoosh, Nike’s metaverse lab, will oversee the launch. DotSwoosh was launched by the brand in November 2022 and serves as a virtual platform for all of Nike’s digital fashion creations.
Earlier this year, dotSwoosh initiated a contest for aspiring designers, offering cash prizes and the opportunity to see their designs transformed into virtual creations. Additionally, in April, Nike conducted its first dotSwoosh airdrop, consisting of a collection of 106,453 Our Force 1 Posters.
This month, Nike joined forces with EA Sports to bring Nike’s dotSwoosh NFTs into EA Sports games, providing fans with an immersive sports and entertainment experience. This partnership aims to further enhance the integration of virtual fashion and gaming.
