All Nippon Airways (ANA), a Japanese airline, and its subsidiary virtual platform ANA NEO, have revealed their plans to launch an exclusive non-fungible token (NFT) marketplace.
This marketplace, known as “ANA GranWhale NFT MarketPlace,” will be the first of its kind introduced by an airline group, focusing specifically on aeronautics-themed digital collectibles.
The inaugural item on the platform will be an NFT conversion of a photograph captured by aerial photographer Luke Ozawa. Notably, one of these photographs will be sold with the original positive film used for its development. The starting price for this unique NFT, to be sold through an auction, is set at 100,000 yen (approximately $714).
Following this initial drop, the second release is scheduled for June 7th and will feature an NFT conversion of the first Boeing 787. A total of 1,574 items will be made available, with 787 items for each of the two types. Each NFT from this collection will be priced at 7,870 yen (approximately $56).
ANA has already partnered with four companies to offer their NFTs on the marketplace and has plans to expand its product lineup in the future.
While ANA is pioneering the concept of an NFT marketplace within the airline industry, it is worth noting that other airlines have also embraced the Web3 movement. In March 2023, Flybondi collaborated with TravelX to offer flight tickets as NFTs, providing increased flexibility, transparency, and security.
Furthermore, in May 2022, TravelX joined forces with Kiu System Solutions, enabling 73 airlines to tokenize and distribute their inventory as NFTs. Additionally, in April 2022, Emirates Airline announced its intentions to venture into the metaverse and launch its own collection of NFTs.
