Reddit has taken another step forward in the evolution of its non-fungible token (NFT) avatars by unveiling the Gen 4 avatars, named “Retro Reimagined.”
The focus of this latest generation is to evoke feelings of nostalgia through a blend of various styles contributed by artists from across the globe.
For this release, Reddit has also teamed up with Cool Cats, a renowned NFT project famous for its 999 hand-illustrated cats with a unique set of traits generated algorithmically. This partnership brings Cool Cats-themed avatars into the mix, enriching the diverse collection available to users.
The Gen 4 release also brings some valuable updates to the shopping experience. A CAPTCHA has been implemented to ward off bots and spam, ensuring a more authentic and secure environment. Additionally, a new feature called “Search on Mobile Shop” has been introduced, allowing users to easily find and select their favorite avatars.
This release comes just three months after the launch of the third round of NFT Avatars back in April.
Reddit initially introduced its Avatars and NFT marketplace in July 2022, where users could purchase blockchain-based profile pictures. The response has been remarkable, with over 2.5 million Vault cryptocurrency wallets — developed by Reddit — being opened by users, even surpassing the OpenSea platform’s popularity.
