Reddit is creating a new NFT-based avatar marketplace where users can buy blockchain-based profile pictures.
The 90 limited edition Collectible Avatar designs, created by some of Reddit’s most dedicated visual designers, will soon be available for purchase in the Avatar builder, with revenues going to the artist who designed them.
NFT holders will be able to use these limited-edition NFT avatars both on and off Reddit.
To create these avatars on-chain, Reddit has worked with Polygon, an Ethereum-compatible blockchain. To store, manage and secure these NFTs, users can use Reddit’s own blockchain wallet called Vault, which is accessible through the company’s native app.
NFT avatars will first be visible to invite-only users of the r/CollectibleAvatars subreddit. The community will feature information on creating a wallet, exclusive artist Q&As, and behind-the-scenes posts regarding the unique profile pictures.
In the upcoming weeks, these collectible avatars will be accessible to everyone on its avatar builder page, even if they weren’t a part of that community.
Since there is no auction, all NFTs have a set price and may be purchased for $9.99, $24.99, $49.99, $74.99, or $99.99 using fiat money and cryptocurrencies.
