The National Hockey League (NHL) has taken a step into the world of non-fungible tokens (NFTs) by introducing a series of digital collectibles.
In their debut NFT drop, the NHL presents captivating artwork minted on the Polygon blockchain, featuring a close-up of a metal ice box.
There are two versions of the NFTs available: the Inaugural Opening Ice Pack, known as the Rare version, and the Inaugural Founding Fan Base Pack, referred to as the Core version.
The Rare NFT box offers an exciting assortment of 5 highlights, showcasing the first career NHL goals from 20 promising up-and-coming players, including talents such as Matty Beniers, Luke Hughes, Jake Sanderson, Wyatt Johnston, Moritz Seider, Juraj Slafkovský, Mason McTavish, and others.
On the other hand, the Core version contains three highlights from a total of 25, displaying the exceptional skills of hockey’s finest players, such as Linus Ullmark, Dawson Mercer, Artemi Panarin, Mikko Rantanen, Ilya Sorokin, Jake Oettinger, and more.
For those interested in owning these unique digital collectibles, the first drop of Rare NFTs consists of 300 units, each priced at $59. Meanwhile, the Core NFTs are more widely available, with 450 units being offered at $9 each.
The NFTs can be accessed through NHL Breakaway, a platform that aims to offer digital collectibles and highlights from both current and past hockey players.
This marks the NHL’s latest venture into the Web3 space, as it had previously entered the Roblox metaverse in May with “NHL Blast.” This initiative allowed hockey enthusiasts from all around the world to immerse themselves in the sport in an entirely new dimension.
