The International Chess Federation (FIDE), or World Chess Federation, has recently become the first global sports organization to introduce its NFT marketplace.
FIDE has created a non-fungible token (NFT) ecosystem for chess called ChessNFT.com in partnership with TON Labs, the major developer of the Free TON Network, a decentralized, community-driven blockchain.
The ChessNFT platform will support new crypto demographics by digitizing iconic match moments, creating unique collectibles, featuring chess-related art, and many other exciting features.
By using both fiat and cryptocurrencies on the platform’s interface, players can bid on and buy chess-themed NFTs that live on-chain.
Arkady Dvorkovich, President of FIDE, stated, “FIDE has started an exciting and ambitious journey of digitalization to bring new experiences and opportunities to chess enthusiasts around the world. We are excited for one of the first steps to be a comprehensive NFT marketplace, coming right in time for the world championship match in Dubai this November.”
