Casio has announced a significant stride in the Web3 space with the introduction of a new metaverse experience.
Dubbed “G-SHOCK THE RIDE,” the virtual experience allows users to assess the durability of timepieces from its renowned “G-SHOCK” line. G-SHOCK watches are recognized for their robust design, engineered to withstand mechanical stress, shock, and vibration.
The virtual setting unfolds within the Hamura Technology Center, a facility housing Casio’s research and development lab.
As users navigate the space, they can undergo a series of durability assessments for the watches. Examples include immersing in the ocean for a water-resistant test or soaring amidst cascading rocks to evaluate shock resistance.
The G-SHOCK THE RIDE experience debuts today, December 8, on the online virtual platform VRChat.
This development represents another stride for Casio in the Web3 space. The company initially entered Web3 in September with the introduction of the VIRTUAL G-SHOCK project, distributing 15,000 free limited-edition NFT passes minted on Polygon.
In October, Casio inaugurated its first virtual watch store in collaboration with VRChat. Users can personalize and buy virtual watches, enriching their VRChat involvement.
In its most recent move last month, Casio unveiled a new series of 2,000 NFTs featuring futuristic interpretations of G-SHOCK watches.
This expansion into Web3 experiences is set to continue, with Casio declaring, “G-SHOCK will continue to take on challenges in new areas beyond the boundaries of watches, including the Metaverse.”
