KEY POINTS
Veyond Metaverse, a company specializing in AI and XR healthcare technology, has incorporated Apple Vision Pro headsets into its digital surgery platform. This platform offers 5D immersive experiences for medical professionals undergoing education and training.
The integration of Apple Vision Pro allows Veyond Metaverse to create a more accessible, efficient, and scalable training method for medical professionals. By using virtual reality (VR), the platform provides a realistic and risk-free environment for doctors and students to practice procedures, conduct research, and collaborate with colleagues.
Furthermore, Veyond Metaverse aims to use this technology to facilitate remote-assisted surgeries. This could revolutionize healthcare practices by enabling real-time collaboration and support during surgical procedures around the world.
Apple Vision Pro joins other VR products already used by Veyond Metaverse to create a more realistic training and collaboration experience. Among these products are VR haptic gloves, which provide enhanced sensory feedback for trainees.
Veyond Metaverse’s CEO, Adam Choe, stated, “We are at the cusp of a new era in medical education, where our anatomy platform will become the gold standard, fostering unprecedented levels of engagement and understanding.”
Veyond Metaverse is not alone in recognizing the potential of virtual reality in healthcare. In 2022, Accenture invested in BehaVR, a company developing virtual reality-based treatments for mental health conditions like anxiety and phobias.
Similarly, Wolters Kluwer introduced “vrClinicals for Nursing” in January 2023. This VR program provides nursing students with realistic scenarios to enhance their training.
Advancements in VR technology are expected to further improve these experiences. Last year, researchers in Japan created non-contact technology that simulates cold sensations within VR environments. Additionally, at CES 2023, OVR Technology introduced ION 3, a standalone wearable that syncs scent delivery with VR, AR, and digital content, enabling users to smell in the metaverse for an enhanced experience.
