Hearst Holdings, which controls over 360 companies, has submitted a trademark application for the “POPEYE” name and likeness, indicating its plan to move it to the metaverse and the realm of non-fungible tokens (NFTs).
According to the application, which was submitted to the USPTO on July 22nd, the firm plans to provide:
- Virtual goods, namely footwear, clothing, accessories, watches, toys, and more for use in online and virtual worlds;
- Downloadable multimedia files containing artwork, text, audio and video relating to carton characters authenticated by non-fungible tokens (NFTs).
