Warner Bros has revealed an exclusive metaverse experience in anticipation of the upcoming release of “Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom” on December 20, 2023.
The experience, titled “Aquaman Simulator – The Lost Kingdom,” is hosted on the Roblox platform. Users can dive into the Atlantis world, exploring four underwater zones to undertake missions and participate in battle mini-games.
Within the virtual space, users have the opportunity to collect four distinctive digital items — including a themed t-shirt, a seahorse, a trident, and a mask. The space also boasts a large screen where users can view the movie trailer.
This marks Warner Bros’ second foray into promoting its Aquaman franchise in the metaverse. In 2018, ahead of the Aquaman movie release, the studio collaborated with Roblox for an immersive experience named “Aquaman: Home is Calling.”
Warner Bros has established itself as a seasoned player in Web3 technologies, evidenced by various initiatives. In July, the studio released “The Flash” as an NFT alongside its conventional digital release. In June, Warner Bros Home Entertainment and Eluvio partnered to bring the 1978 film “Superman: The Movie” to the Web3 world. Additionally, Warner Bros joined forces with Nifty’s in the same month to turn Looney Tunes into NFTs.
The entertainment industry is capitalizing on Web3 technologies, using the metaverse and NFTs to boost fan engagement. Statistics indicate that the global metaverse in the entertainment market was valued at $13.8 billion in 2021, with a projected growth of $221.7 billion by 2031.
