Sony BBC Earth, the nature-focused television channel, has delved into the metaverse to offer a unique virtual experience of the natural world.
Attendees at The Lil Flea, a three-day event in Mumbai, India, featuring various brands, live showcases, and creative ventures, can partake in Sony BBC Earth’s virtual adventure.
Equipped with virtual reality (VR) headsets, visitors can immerse themselves in diverse natural landscapes — ranging from the Tropical Forest to the North Pole.
Within the virtual space, participants can witness the beauty of the Aurora lights and come face-to-face with a variety of animals, including penguins, seals, and polar bears. Alternatively, they can explore the tropical rainforest, strolling through the lush green canopy and encountering exotic animals like toucans, crocodiles, and jackals.
The Sony BBC Earth booth will host this immersive experience until December 10, 2023.
This marks Sony’s latest foray into the metaverse to enhance engagement with visitors and fans. Notably, the company recently collaborated with Spyglass Media Group and MeetKai to launch “Survive Thanksgiving,” a metaverse experience inspired by the horror movie Thanksgiving.
Beyond virtual experiences, Sony has actively contributed to the development of devices supporting enhanced interactions within the virtual world. In 2022, Sony Japan introduced “mocopi,” a set of six small sensor bands enabling users to record motion for their metaverse avatars.
