Sony has completed its acquisition of Beyond Sports.
Beyond Sports will work alongside Hawk-Eye and Pulselive to provide end-to-end sports data and technology services to Sony’s clients.
Beyond Sports would allow customers to engage in real-time sports on any platform or content, as well as allow sports businesses to interact with fans outside of traditional channels, building a presence in the metaverse and virtual worlds.
In addition, the company provides its own bespoke 3D settings, which open up a world of possibilities for target sports audiences in the metaverse.
As a result, sports fans will be able to enjoy sports in a more thrilling way that goes beyond ordinary TVs and that allows for fully-immersive engagement within metaverse spaces through the use of specific devices, such as VR headsets.
Sony has been involved in a number of ventures relating to the metaverse since first expressing interest in it with a $1 billion investment in Epic Games. Sony’s Hawk-Eye Innovations teamed up with NFT Technologies in August to connect live sports data to the vast potential of the sports NFT market. In September, Sony applied for a trademark in order to enter the NFT market.
