Samsung is signaling a strong commitment to Web3; in some of its most recent filings, the company submitted trademark applications for “Galaxy Glasses” and “Galaxy Ring” — VR products designed to enhance people’s metaverse experiences.
The trademark application for “Galaxy Glasses,” filed with the USPTO on February 23, 2023, cites virtual reality headsets; augmented reality headsets; headphones; smartphones; and smart glasses.
Meanwhile, the “Galaxy Ring” application, filed with the USPTO on January 27, 2023, mentions the company’s intention to offer a wearable smart ring for “tracking, measuring, monitoring, and uploading health, fitness, and sleep-related information.”
Michael Kondoudis, a trademark attorney who specializes in Web3-related registrations, tweeted about the flings.
Thus far, Samsung has been quite active in Web3; last month, to mark the launch of the Galaxy S23 series, Samsung Singapore released the “Epic Beginnings” NFT collection, while Samsung Germany worked with Ledger to create a Web3-related program.
Samsung has also established a presence in the metaverse; in November, Samsung unveiled “The Space Cup,” a virtual playground on Roblox to host a virtual football tournament, and in October, Samsung Latin America launched its “House of SAM,” a metaverse experience where users can learn more about Samsung’s brand and products.
