The partnership has resulted in the introduction of the “.pudgy” extension, allowing users to establish a distinctive digital identity within a community framework.
The newly introduced domains are available for purchase at a starting price of $10 each. Once acquired, users can use the domain to create a Web3 site, establish a presence on social media platforms, and facilitate cryptocurrency transactions by replacing lengthy and intricate wallet addresses with easily recognizable names.
To further foster a sense of community, Pudgy Penguins-themed badges are granted to individuals acquiring a pudgy domain. For instance, buying a single domain earns the buyer a “Penguin Participant” badge, while holding a minimum of 500 domains awards the user the “Penguin Prestige” badge.
The rise in popularity of Web3 domains can be attributed to their inherent advantages. Recently, GoDaddy partnered with Ethereum Name Service (ENS) to simplify cryptocurrency transactions by allowing users to associate their domain names with ENS names. This collaboration aims to enhance accessibility and usability in blockchain interactions.
Major corporations have embraced Web3 domain innovation since 2022. For instance, in February of that year, sportswear brand Puma made headlines by registering the domain name “Puma.eth” with ENS. This registered name has since become the official username for the company on X (Twitter).
