Habbo, a virtual game launched in 2000 and often regarded as one of the early metaverse versions, has decided to broaden its presence into The Sandbox metaverse.
Dubbed “Habbo Space Hotel,” the experience follows the tale of Frank, the owner of a five-star space resort dealing with unexpected tourists — space aliens.
In this scenario, players are asked to help Frank, ensuring smooth cohabitation between humans and aliens. Plus, when a mysterious “Monolith” shows up, players need to figure out if it’s a danger or just a sign of “advanced tech from some ancient alien civilization.”
Holders of a non-fungible token (NFT) from the Habbo Genesys collection will also gain access to extra content within the experience. The collection is the first official NFT collection for Habbo created by Sulake — the social media entity behind Habbo. It comprises 11,600 auto-generated, pixelated avatars featuring iconic Habbo characters.
The entry into the metaverse represents another stride by Habbo toward Web3. Observing the growing interest in NFTs, Habbo has identified opportunities to integrate new technology into its existing platform.
In 2022, Sulake selected Immutable X to facilitate gas-free NFT trading and minting, along with ensuring carbon neutrality. In August 2023, Habbo partnered with Juniper Creates to unleash the potential of user-generated assets within its metaverse.
