Pudgy Toys, physical toys inspired by the popular Pudgy Penguins non-fungible token (NFT) collection, are making a broader physical presence by extending their availability to an additional 1,100 Walmart stores.
This expansion, outlined in a press release on February 20, brings the total number of US Walmart stores carrying Pudgy Toys to 3,100. The added stores will introduce 30 new Pudgy Penguins items — comprising five collectible Pudgy figurines and 25 Lil Pudgys mystery igloos.
Each Pudgy Toy is equipped with a QR code that grants access to features and collectibles within Pudgy World. Pudgy World is an online, open-world game powered by the Layer 2 blockchain zkSync Era, offering players the ability to customize their penguin characters, engage in story-driven quests, and more.
The unique selling point of Pudgy Toys lies in their connection to NFT intellectual property. Owners of Pudgy Toys NFTs are linked to royalty payments through the OverpassIP licensing platform. This system simplifies licensing processes and enables NFT holders to submit their digital assets for consideration in future Pudgy Toy launches and other projects.
Pudgy Penguins initially introduced Pudgy Toys in May 2023 through various e-commerce platforms. The brand rapidly ascended to become a top seller on Amazon across three categories. In September 2023, Pudgy Toys became available to 2,000 Walmart locations, with prices ranging from $2.99 to $11.97.
Established in 2021, the Pudgy Penguins NFT collection gained relevant traction, currently holding the top position in trading volume within the last 24 hours. The collection made headlines last week due to its contribution to the resurgence of Ethereum’s NFT market, driven by its sales and trading volume.
