Pudgy Penguins, a prominent non-fungible token (NFT) collection, is expanding its project with the unveiling of an upcoming metaverse experience named “Pudgy World.”
The virtual realm is set to offer players the opportunity to explore, personalize their penguin avatars, partake in a narrative-driven gaming experience, and engage with other participants.
Steering the game’s narrative and guiding players through their adventures are Pudgy Penguins’ inaugural “Hero Characters” — Pudgy and Peaches — introduced specifically for the launch of Pudgy World.
The metaverse space will be powered by zkSync Era, a layer-two (L2) scaling solution engineered by blockchain experts at Matter Labs to enhance Ethereum scalability.
The alpha release of Pudgy World is scheduled for Q1 of 2024, with a preview video unveiling set to take place at Art Basel Miami, an annual international art fair.
Originally launched in July 2021 as an NFT collection comprising 8,888 tokens, Pudgy Penguins swiftly sold out minutes after release, establishing itself as a noteworthy project.
In a strategic move in September, the project collaborated with Walmart to turn Pudgy Penguins NFT characters into physical toys and make them available in 2,000 Walmart stores.
Each physical toy includes a QR code, granting users access to unique traits for their digital Forever Pudgy character and entry into the Pudgy World metaverse experience. Notably, Pudgy World will be accessible to everyone, not just toy owners and Pudgy Penguins NFT holders.
The announcement of the Pudgy World launch has garnered positive community feedback, as evidenced by CoinMarketCap data indicating a notable uptick in volume and sales over the past seven days — 46.10% and 19.41%, respectively. With an all-time volume of 238,941.73 ETH (equivalent to over $536 million), the Pudgy Penguins NFT collection continues to solidify its position in the market.
