Maison Margiela, the renowned French luxury fashion house, is re-entering the realm of non-fungible tokens (NFTs) with the launch of the “MetaTABI” collection, featuring one of its most iconic boot models — Tabi.
The announcement, shared on Maison Margiela’s X (Twitter) account earlier today, unveiled that the Tabi boots showcased in the collection faithfully mirror the real ones and come paired with corresponding physical items.
The MetaTABI NFTs will be available in two distinct color variants — black and white. The ultra-limited MetaTABI boot in white, comprising only 15 pieces, will be paired with a custom-made physical Tabi boot. On the other hand, the limited edition MetaTABI boot in black, totaling 1500 pieces, will be accompanied by a custom-made leather wallet.
MetaTABI NFT holders will not only be entitled to claim the corresponding limited edition physical item but will also gain access to an augmented reality (AR) tool that will enable them to explore their digital Tabi virtually. Additionally, they will have the opportunity to engage in gaming integrations and gain priority access to Maison Margiela’s Web3 roadmap and future initiatives.
The collaboration behind the MetaTABI NFT collection involves Aura Blockchain Consortium, a non-profit offering blockchain agnostic solutions exclusively to luxury brands, and The Fabricant, a premium digital fashion platform.
The pre-sale for the MetaTABI NFT collection is scheduled for March 26, and will last 14 hours, followed by a public mint on March 27, available for 72 hours or until sold out. The pricing details for each NFT within the collection have not been disclosed as of now.
This isn’t Maison Margiela’s first venture into the NFT space. Back in October 2023, the fashion house entered the Web3 space with an NFT gaming experience, featuring collectibles inspired by the brand’s iconic numbering system.
The broader fashion industry has witnessed a significant embrace of NFTs, leveraging them for purposes such as certificates of authenticity against counterfeiting, fostering community, and rewarding loyal customers. Notably, other luxury brands like Louis Vuitton and Gucci have also ventured into the NFT space, introducing exclusive digital and physical offerings as part of their Web3 initiatives.
