BIC, renowned worldwide for its stationery, lighters, and shavers, has once again delved into the realm of the metaverse with the inauguration of a virtual art gallery in Africa.
The initiative, as reported by The Voice of Nigeria, the official international broadcasting station of Nigeria, is an extension of BIC’s Art Master Africa, a flagship competition encouraging artists to craft their artworks using BIC ballpoint pens.
Aligned with the Master’s mission to foster creativity and spotlight African talents, the metaverse experience allows artists to exhibit their works in the virtual gallery. This ongoing endeavor will feature artworks from artists across Southern, Western, and West Africa throughout the year.
Open to all and accessible via web browsers or virtual reality (VR) devices, the gallery welcomes art enthusiasts to explore and purchase showcased pieces, with the added option of receiving physical versions of the artworks.
This move signifies BIC’s commitment to merging digital innovation with artistic expression. Nonetheless, this isn’t BIC’s first foray into the metaverse.
Just last month, the company unveiled BIC DrawPlanet: Go Make WOW on Roblox, a virtual social experience. This follows BIC’s previous ventures into digital realms, including the introduction of the Supercampus game in Roblox, developed in collaboration with Walmart, 3M, and Crayola back in 2023.
