SK Telecom, one of Korea’s major wireless telecommunications operators, has broadened its collaborations to enrich its “ifland” metaverse.
New partners now include CelcomDigi Berhad, Malaysia’s largest telecommunications company, Agate, a prominent game developer and publisher in Indonesia, and Cosmic Technologies, a leading IoT platform provider and consumer electronics company in the Philippines.
These partnerships will involve the new collaborators promoting ifland in their respective local markets through localized content and marketing campaigns. Additionally, they will host metaverse events within ifland’s personalized virtual spaces, known as “if homes.” This strategy aims to generate customized content and features based on regional preferences.
In return, SK Telecom will offer partners opportunities to learn and gain experience in the metaverse service or business.
These partnerships align with a plan revealed in November 2022, where SK Telecom expressed its intent to expand the ifland metaverse globally, reinforcing international ties and delivering localized content.
Since its July 2021 launch in Korea, ifland has experienced rapid growth, evolving into Korea’s premier social metaverse.
Continuous enhancements have been made to improve the user experience, including last month’s announcement by SK Telecom, introducing 16,000 new virtual items, NFT integration through “TopPort,” and the introduction of a virtual currency dubbed “Stone.”
