Romania is the latest European country to adopt Web3 with the debut of its national non-fungible token (NFT) marketplace.
The initiative is the vision of Romania’s National Institute for Research and Development in Informatics (ICI Bucharest), which wants to take advantage of the traction generated by NFTs to bring innovation to the country while also changing the connection and interaction between the private and public sectors.
The platform, dubbed “ICI D|Services,” is scheduled to launch on April 26, 2023, and will let users buy, sell, and trade non-fungible assets.
The marketplace was developed jointly with and on MultiversX, a highly scalable, secure, and decentralized blockchain network.
To coincide with and celebrate the marketplace’s launch, five NFT collections created by chosen Romanian athletes, institutions, and organizations will be released. Among them are Bucharest’s Central University Library, the Romanian Olympic and Sports Committee, and the country’s news agency, Agepres.
Among the collection’s creators will also be David Popovici, Romanian competitive swimmer and World Champion, with his “ICONS of the Generational Circle,” an NFT that pays tribute to outstanding figures in Olympic sports.
This move shows the Romanian government’s commitment to embracing technology and promoting new chances for interaction among individuals, businesses, and institutions.
