Phantom, a multichain wallet, has introduced a new feature for its mobile app, enabling users to create non-fungible tokens (NFTs) using their mobile camera.
The feature, dubbed “Camera Mint,” enables users to capture images or record short videos — up to 15 seconds — or upload existing photos from their device’s camera roll. Users can then provide a title and description for their created moments and instantly mint them as NFTs.
This allows them to securely preserve personal moments, such as selfies, specific objects, or any cherished memory of their choice on the blockchain.
The minting process takes only a few seconds and occurs on the Solana blockchain. These NFTs are then neatly organized and stored under the “Collectibles” tab within the app, making them easily accessible for users at their convenience.
To mark the debut of the new feature, Phantom is providing users with a unique incentive — a commemorative Phantom collectible as a reward for minting NFTs using the new capability.
Since its inception in 2021, Phantom has gained significant popularity and now ranks among the most widely used multichain crypto wallets. With over 40,000 active beta testers, the wallet has experienced rapid growth.
In June 2021, Phantom introduced an in-app token swapper, which generated over $1 billion in swap volume by October of the same year. In July 2021, Phantom successfully secured $9 million in funding from prominent investors, including a16z, Variant, and Jump Capital.
