Crypto wallet MetaMask has teamed up with Web3-enabled store HyperPlay to introduce a new directory that simplifies finding non-fungible token (NFT) games and in-game assets.
Users can now access the Games tab within their MetaMask wallet to explore a variety of blockchain-based games.
The directory offers a list of games across different genres and indicates whether MetaMask supports in-game activities. Each game entry includes a link for users to learn more, redirecting them to HyperPlay for further details.
HyperPlay, launched last year, functions as a desktop application that doubles as a Web3-native game store and an aggregator of other game stores. Players can connect their MetaMask or WalletConnect wallets to the application, enabling wallet usage within any game launched through the platform.
HyperPlay highlighted the restrictive nature of the traditional gaming industry in a post on X (Twitter) on June 5. “The entire gaming industry has long been controlled by a handful of corporations that impose monopolistic fees and censorship on game developers,” the post read. In response, HyperPlay does not charge listing or in-game transaction fees.
In June 2023, HyperPlay secured $12 million in a Series A funding round, co-led by Griffin Gaming Partners and Bitkraft Ventures, with additional participation from Consensys and Square Enix.
HyperPlay emphasized the significance of its partnership with MetaMask, stating, “Our on-going collaboration with MetaMask opens up Web3 gaming to an even bigger audience — introducing millions of people to the video games listed on the HyperPlay store — the future of gaming.”
This launch of the game directory adds to MetaMask’s growing portfolio. Over the past few years, MetaMask has expanded its services significantly. In 2023, it incorporated NFT support and announced collaborations with OpenSea and Blockaid to introduce a scam-detection tool.
