Square Enix has disclosed a strategic investment in HyperPlay, a Web3-native gaming platform.
Developed in partnership with MetaMask, HyperPlay serves as both a launcher and aggregator for Web3-native games. It enables players to install games from the Epic Store, GOG, or its proprietary store.
Players can link their MetaMask or WalletConnect wallet to HyperPlay, and employ it within every game launched through the platform.
HyperPlay’s mission revolves around providing a hub for Web3 game developers who have faced persistent de-platforming and taxation by monopolistic Web2 companies.
While the press release issued on March 19 does not disclose the investment amount, it highlights its purpose to assist HyperPlay in expanding its game store. This expansion includes integrating rich gaming reputation and community features, alongside streamlined infrastructure to facilitate game development.
Moreover, thanks to this investment, Square Enix’s Symbiogenesis, its inaugural Web3-related game title launched in December 2023, is now accessible in the HyperPlay game store.
This investment underscores Square Enix’s commitment to Web3 gaming, a direction emphasized in a letter at the outset of the new year. The company reaffirmed its dedication to “doubling down on Web3, metaverse integration, and NFTs” to introduce innovation and immersive experiences to its user base.
