The latest notable transaction in the non-fungible token (NFT) market sees a significant sale exceeding $16 million, once again coming from one of the most widely recognized NFT collections — CryptoPunks.
The sale occurred yesterday, involving CryptoPunk #7804, categorized as one of the rare Alien Punks and characterized by three distinct attributes. The sale amounted to 4,850 ETH, which translated to $16,421,614 at the time of the transaction.
The seller, identified only by the pseudonym “Peruggia,” expressed his thoughts on the sale through a post on X (Twitter). He lamented the perceived undervaluation of CryptoPunks over time, stating, “End of an era. I’ve long since felt like an imposter.”
He further articulated his frustration, accusing the market of holding certain NFTs hostage and failing to recognize the true worth of CryptoPunk #7804. After more than a year of searching for the right buyer to appreciate the value of the NFT, the seller finally found success.
With this latest transaction, CryptoPunk #7804 secures its place as the second-largest sale ever recorded for CryptoPunks, displacing CryptoPunk #3100 — another Alien Punk sold two weeks ago for approximately $16.2 million.
The dominance of Alien Punks is evident in the top five list of CryptoPunks’ largest sales, with these two recent transactions in 2024 revitalizing a classification primarily shaped by sales recorded during the peak of NFTs in 2021 and 2022.
Topping the list is still CryptoPunk #5822, which fetched a staggering $23.7 million when sold for 8,000 ETH in February 2022.
According to data from CryptoSlam, CryptoPunks currently holds the top position for sales volume in the last 24 hours and occupies the third spot in the all-time list.
These recent record-breaking sales from CryptoPunks play a part in the resurgence of the Ethereum NFT market, which has been experiencing an uptrend since last month, with other collections like Pandora, Nobody, and Pudgy Penguins also contributing to the surge.
