McDonald’s has launched the “My Happy Place” metaverse in Singapore.
This virtual space was developed in collaboration with metaverse service provider Bandwagon Labs, which announced the launch on X (Twitter) today.
“My Happy Place” is a multiplayer environment that allows users in Singapore to test their creativity by designing and decorating their own McDonald’s restaurant. The virtual experience includes exclusive digital wearables and offers rewards, including real-life perks such as a year of free meals.
The metaverse experience is already accessible through the McDonald’s app.
This launch is not the first collaboration between McDonald’s Singapore and Bandwagon Labs. Last year, they worked together to provide fans with digital collectible rewards, unveiling an exclusive Grimace NFT series with local artist The Hidden Walls. Holders of these NFTs were given an early preview of “My Happy Place” yesterday.
McDonald’s has been exploring the Web3 space for some time. In 2022, the company filed ten trademark applications to enter the metaverse, including a virtual restaurant with home delivery services. That same year, McDonald’s expanded its metaverse plans with a trademark application for “McDelivery.”
In January 2023, McDonald’s collaborated with Karen X Cheng to celebrate the Lunar New Year with a campaign that integrated the metaverse, augmented reality, and artificial intelligence. In July 2023, McDonald’s Hong Kong launched a virtual experience in The Sandbox to celebrate the 40th anniversary of McNuggets.
