Manchester United has unveiled a new Web3 fantasy soccer game called “Fantasy United,” along with a series of collectible non-fungible tokens (NFTs) for the 2024/25 season.
The game allows players to build their collection of player trading cards and choose five of them for each match Manchester United plays. The performance of these selected players on the field impacts the points users earn, which in turn affects their position on the overall leaderboard.
Users can buy NFTs featuring first-team players — in Classic, Rare, and Ultra-Rare editions — via the objkt NFT marketplace. These NFTs come in packs of seven and are priced at £3 (about $4).
As the season progresses, the trading cards will be updated with real-time statistics such as goals, assists, tackles, and saves, allowing fans to stay engaged with current player performance.
In addition to individual play, users can form mini-leagues with friends, choosing their lineup each week to compete in these private groups.
The Fantasy United game is powered by the Tezos blockchain, extending Manchester United’s partnership with Tezos, which started in 2022. This collaboration seeks to develop a Web3 community that educates, rewards, and connects fans through both digital and physical experiences.
This initiative follows other football clubs’ ventures into Web3. In 2022, Sorare became a Premium Partner of AC Milan, providing official NFT fantasy football game services. More recently, in April, Manchester City teamed up with the digital collectible platform Quidd to offer fans NFT trading cards with exclusive perks.
