Major League Paintball (MLPB) has teamed up with the Web3 company Momental to launch “MLPB Armory” — a non-fungible token (NFT) marketplace for officially licensed MLPB-themed digital cards.
The marketplace, built on the Hedera network, features digital collectibles of over 300 players from men’s and women’s professional paintball leagues across five continents.
To celebrate the launch, MLPB Armory and Momental are offering 10 free player packs to new accounts on MLPB Armory. Winners will be randomly selected at the end of August, with the packs airdropped directly into their accounts.
Tom Cole, President of MLPB, emphasized the importance of this development for the sport, stating, “This is a pivotal time in pro paintball history. The sport is growing and partners like Momental help us keep up the pace with innovations like MLPB Armory. We can’t wait to share this with the paintball community and continue growing fandom through new tech.”
This move by MLPB follows similar steps by other sports leagues into the Web3 space. In 2022, Major League Baseball (MLB) partnered with Sorare to allow fans to create teams, compete, and earn rewards through an online NFT-based baseball game. That same year, Sorare announced a multi-year agreement with the NBA to develop the first NFT-based fantasy basketball game.
NFTs have become a popular way for brands and organizations to engage with fans, offering exclusive experiences and closer connections. According to a report by Market Decipher, the sports NFT market size is expected to reach $41.6 billion by 2032.
