Queen Productions Ltd., the company established and owned by members of the legendary band Queen, has taken a significant step into the digital realm by filing a trademark application signaling its interest in the metaverse and the non-fungible token (NFT) space.
Submitted to the US Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) on June 12, 2023, the application outlines Queen Productions Ltd.’s plans to offer digital files authenticated by NFTs. The company also aims to develop virtual augmented and mixed-reality software, enabling multiple users to access and interact within a virtual environment. Additionally, the company intends to create a virtual marketplace, featuring virtual clothing, footwear, audio gear, CD and record players, among other items.
The news regarding this trademark filing was shared on Twitter today by Michael Kondoudis, a trademark attorney specializing in Web3-related filings.
This move by Queen Productions follows a trend of music-related entities and artists expressing their interest in NFTs and the metaverse.
One example is Julian Lennon, who made his foray into NFTs in January 2022. Julian debuted his inaugural NFT collection, featuring exclusive items from his father, John Lennon, and the iconic band, The Beatles. This collection garnered significant attention, with Beatles and John Lennon memorabilia fetching impressive sums exceeding $150,000 at an auction.
Notably, various contemporary musicians have already embraced Web3 initiatives. In August 2022, Doja Cat joined forces with JBL to launch the “Fresh Fruit by Doja Cat x JBL” NFT initiative. Additionally, in July of the same year, Usher and Rémy Martin collaborated to release a limited-edition bottle and NFT on BlockBar, showcasing their involvement in the digital realm.
