American singer-songwriter and actress Lady Gaga is set to make her debut in the metaverse as she takes the lead in the upcoming Fortnite Festival season.
Announcing the news on Twitter on February 20, Lady Gaga shared an image of her avatar on stage with the caption “Fortnite Festival” and the date “2.22.24.” This post was linked to a 2019 tweet where Lady Gaga humorously questioned “What’s fortnight,” playfully correcting it in her recent post as “*fortnite.”
The announcement has generated significant interest and interaction within the community, amassing over 350,000 likes and 78,000 re-shares. Even Spotify expressed enthusiasm, commenting, “Oh, we cannot wait to see the moves she has.”
Fortnite has provided details about the event in a recent blog post. The festival is scheduled to run from February 22 to April 22, 2024, offering a new music-driven and rhythm-based game.
A key feature of the experience is the “Unlock Your Talent Festival Pass,” allowing users to access new virtual instruments, jam tracks, and more. The pass includes both a free reward track and an optional Premium Reward Track upgrade.
Participants can enter the festival experience by joining the Fortnite Festival Lobby, navigating to the Festival Pass in the top menu, and accessing the Unlock Your Talent Festival Pass along with quest information.
Completing quests allows users to accumulate points throughout the festival season and unlock exclusive music-themed digital items such as drums and emotes like the “Strap Spin Emote.”
Participants choosing the Premium Reward Track will have the opportunity to unlock exclusive Lady Gaga-themed rewards, such as the “Enigmatic Gaga Outfit” featuring an iconic ensemble from her Chromatica Ball stadium tour.
Lady Gaga’s foray into the metaverse mirrors the efforts of fellow music icons such as Doja Cat, Robbie Williams, and Billie Eilish, all dedicated to providing immersive experiences for their fanbase.
Recognizing the metaverse’s potential, Fortnite previously collaborated with the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival in April 2023, creating a unique metaverse activation. Similarly, in September 2023, Decentraland introduced its annual music festival, themed “Rebirth & Regeneration,” showcasing art and music in the metaverse.
