Watchmaker Jaques Sermand has recently revealed the launch of a new watch paired with a non-fungible token (NFT).
The latest offering from the renowned brand is a limited edition timepiece, with only 365 units available throughout the year 2023.
The NFT, designed in collaboration with popular contemporary artist Marcel van Luit, features an animated flipping effect and will serve as a unique voucher, granting holders access to the acquisition of the Jaques Sermand watch.
The front of the NFT features a mix of typical Swiss elements, including flowers, mountains, and the iconic Swiss bull, a symbol synonymous with the brand’s identity.
On the reverse side, the NFT offers a digital representation of the new Jaques Sermand blue watch. This side will also offer a customization feature, as buyers of the NFT will have the option to select a “memorable day”, specifying the year, month, and day, which will then be showcased on the digital watch.
The NFT also plays a crucial role in the authentication and ownership of the Jaques Sermand watch, as it will act as a verifiable proof of purchase, confirming the authenticity of the timepiece.
The NFT is already available for pre-order on the dedicated website at €5,400 (approximately $5,900), buyable through various payment methods, including MetaMask, PayPal, or card.
Jaques Sermand joins a growing list of watch brands embracing Web3 technology to enhance customer experiences and tackle real-world challenges, such as counterfeiting.
Earlier this year, in February, the renowned Swiss luxury watchmaker Hublot made waves by unveiling a unique collection of 13 timepieces, each intricately connected to NFTs, in a remarkable collaboration with the esteemed artist Takashi Murakami.
In a similar move, Timex, a well-known watch brand, partnered with Daz 3D to offer an exclusive line of limited-edition watches that can be fully customized by customers. Alongside these personalized timepieces, each watch is delivered with an associated NFT.
Breitling, another prominent watchmaker, made its mark in the Web3 landscape in October by launching the Super Chronomat Automatic 38 Origins. This latest addition to the brand’s lineup came accompanied by an integrated NFT, providing a transparent and verifiable solution to track the chain of custody for the timepiece.
