Timex, an American global watch manufacturing company founded in 1854, has announced its debut into Web3 with the first-ever line of limited edition timepieces.
The initiative, created in partnership with NFT development company Daz 3D, will combine physical and digital facets with the release of a fully customized Timex watch paired with an NFT timepiece.
The customized timepiece is the iconic Timex Waterbury Classic design, a vintage watch, with just 500 units available.
BAYC and MAYC holders will be able to personalize it by engraving their Ape on the dial and selecting from a number of color options for the watch case and bracelet.
Holders will also be able to personalize the case back with an image or the unique token number of the Ape they own.
On December 2nd, 2022, there will be a pre-sale for the BAYC community at an exclusive, invite-only launch party at Art Basel in Miami.
Beginning December 4, all Bored Ape and Mutant Ape NFT holders will be able to purchase a Timepiece Forge Pass NFT for 2 ETH, which will be active until December 31st, 2022 at 11:59 p.m. EST and will serve to validate the watch’s authenticity.
Beginning in mid-December, holders will be able to access a dedicated website to create their own, one-of-a-kind watch, which will be individually produced and delivered in Q2 2023.
This isn’t the first time a watchmaker has approached Web3. At the beginning of the month, Chronoswiss opened a virtual shop in the metaverse and released its first NFT.
During the same time period, Rolex applied for a trademark, showing its intention to enter the world of NFTs and the metaverse.
Breitling introduced its new Super Chronomat Automatic 38 Origins in October, which includes an NFT for tracking the watch’s chain of custody.
