Swiss luxury watchmaker Breitling has collaborated with Sourcemap, a global provider of supply chain transparency and traceability software, to make its new Super Chronomat Automatic 38 Origins luxury watch traceable.
The partnership resulted in a non-fungible token (NFT) that will be issued with each Super Chronomat Origins watch, which is made of precious materials such as small-scale gold and lab-grown diamonds.
The NFT will let clients independently check the entire chain of custody, from raw material to finished product, ensuring transparency and authenticity.
With the Super Chronomat Origins, it is the first time that Breitling has included the supply chain of precious material of a watch in an NFT. Despite this, Breitling has been dealing with NFTs since 2020, including one with each watch.
NFTs may transform the luxury watch market and the luxury industry in general, giving clients and the second-hand market a prime source for verifying authenticity and provenance, eliminating problems such as counterfeiting and scams.
