Chronoswiss, a modern mechanical watch manufacturer, has announced its first venture into the metaverse.
Metaverse Chronoswiss Atelier and NFT
Chronoswiss’ entry into the metaverse entails the creation of a virtual replica of its Atelier in Lucerne, Switzerland, on the metaverse platform Decentraland.
Within the Chronoswiss metaverse, users are able to purchase both physical and digital timepieces.
In terms of digital, there are 100 limited edition digital wearables from the “Open Gear ReSec Sugar Rush” collection that users may purchase to personalize their avatars.
For more conventional users and watch fanatics, there are also eight limited edition physical timepieces manufactured exclusively in Lucerne for virtual Atelier clients. Each watch will be linked to an NFT provided to the customer.

While this is a significant technological leap in Chronoswiss’s history, it is not the company’s first blockchain-related move. In 2018, the Swiss watchmaker became the first in the industry to accept a variety of cryptocurrencies as payment options.
Watch Industry and Web3-Related Initiatives
Many watch brands have joined Web3, making the watch industry one of the strongest voices within the space.
The usefulness of blockchain in this industry has encouraged watchmakers and retailers to find a new way to sell their products.
In particular, allowing cryptocurrency payment options to reach a more tech-savvy audience, as well as the ability to issue an NFT linked to a timepiece to validate its origin and authenticity, appears to be appealing to many brands.
Here are some of the latest and most relevant Web3 watch industry news:
- Rolex has recently submitted a trademark application revealing its ambition to enter the world of NFTs and the metaverse.
- Swiss luxury watchmaker TAG Heuer introduced a smartwatch capable of displaying NFTs and linking to crypto wallets.
- Last week, Breitling introduced its new Super Chronomat Automatic 38 Origins, which comes with an NFT to track the watch’s chain of custody.
- In June, Bulgari unveiled its new metaverse concept and debuts the world’s thinnest mechanical watch linking it to an NFT.
