In anticipation of the upcoming World Cup 2022, FIFA has announced the launch of a non-fungible token (NFT) platform to offer soccer-themed digital collectibles.
Leveraging the power of NFT technology, the platform, dubbed FIFA+ Collect, which is slated for release later this month, will allow fans the opportunity to own and save soccer moments forever on the blockchain.
FIFA+ Collect will run on the Algorand blockchain, a proof-of-stake blockchain cryptocurrency protocol.
FIFA+ Collect’s launch will be announced soon, along with details about the types of NFTs it will offer.
The NFT platform will live on FIFA+, the organization’s platform for live soccer games, news, games, and original content.
In July, FIFA applied for a trademark for “WORLD CUP 2026” in an attempt to embrace cryptocurrencies and enter the metaverse. Apparently, the association is currently taking real efforts to establish a presence on Web3 and present fans and soccer enthusiasts with a new, totally immersive experience.
