FIFA has joined forces with Upland to introduce an innovative twist to the Women’s World Cup Australia & New Zealand 2023 — stepping into the metaverse.
The digital event promises an array of engaging experiences, from interactive in-game activities and mini-games to virtual keepsakes and hangout spots. This fusion will enable fans across the globe to connect and immerse themselves in a new kind of matchday atmosphere.
While competing in the games, participants will have the opportunity to win digital collectibles that encompass a variety of items, such as virtual posters, spotlights, boots, team crests, stylish digital jerseys, and even mascots.
The virtual experience is set to kick off on August 10, 2023, in sync with the ongoing Women’s World Cup that commenced on July 20 and is set to conclude on August 20, 2023.
This venture isn’t the first instance of FIFA exploring the Web3 space to elevate global fan involvement. Back in July 2022, FIFA initiated the process of trademarking “World Cup 2026” in order to venture into the metaverse.
Moreover, in September 2022, FIFA introduced FIFA+ Collect, a non-fungible token (NFT) platform that offers soccer-themed digital collectibles. Expanding its digital footprint, FIFA also unveiled a lineup of Web3 games in November 2022, providing fans with interactive entertainment throughout the World Cup Qatar 2022.
