The International Basketball Federation (FIBA) has teamed up with the Web3 SaaS platform Venly to introduce a series of non-fungible tokens (NFTs) to mark the upcoming FIBA World Cup in 2023.
The NFT collection comprises four distinctive elements — namely Fan’s Frenzy, National Pride, Ultimate Courtside, and Golden Glory.
Fan’s Frenzy pays tribute to the FIBA World Cup 2023, which will take place from August 25 to September 10, while National Pride showcases a set of 32 exclusive designs, each representing a national team taking part in the championship.
One of the other two elements in the collection, Ultimate Courtside, with a limited release of 1,500 units, dives into the deep-rooted history of basketball. Meanwhile, Golden Glory, accessible exclusively to holders of the “National Pride” NFT, serves as a tribute to the nation’s triumphant victory.
These NFTs, which are based on the Polygon network, were revealed on August 21, coinciding with a basketball event. Fans will be able to acquire these NFTs from the FIBA World Cup NFT Shopify store.
This isn’t FIBA’s inaugural venture into the realm of Web3 to enrich the fan experience. Back in 2021, FIBA collaborated with the blockchain enterprise Bitci to release NFTs and fan tokens, solidifying its commitment to incorporating new-age technologies into the realm of sports engagement.
