River City Church, based in Vancouver, Washington State, has announced plans for a “Mission Trip To The Metaverse.”
River City Church intends to focus on the promise of the metaverse, which allows individuals to interact, socialize, and participate while removing real boundaries such as time zones and distances.
In fact, the Mission Trip would enable individuals to engage with a broad group of people, build meaningful friendships, and demonstrate the “transformative power of the love of Jesus.”
The virtual experience will be built on the BLESS framework, which stands for Begin With Prayer, Listen, Enjoy Shared Experiences, Serve, Story; this means that participants will be involved in a variety of charity activities, such as virtual volunteering, as well as entertaining ones, such as digital art exhibits, concerts, and educational workshops.
The experience, which will launch in August 2023, will cost $500, or $150 if customers already possess a VR Headset, and will need them to attend pre-recorded on-demand missions training as well as commit to spending a month on it (5-10 hours per week).
While many industries have already taken advantage of the possibilities of the metaverse, this marks the first time a church has recognized the benefits it could bring in terms of connecting with its community, carrying out love missions, and engaging in charitable activities. This bold step by River City Church shows a willingness to embrace new technologies and adapt to the changing times.
