Café Bustelo, a well-known coffee brand under The J.M. Smucker Company, has submitted two trademark applications to venture into the metaverse and embrace the world of non-fungible tokens (NFTs).
The applications, filed with the US Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) on June 30, 2023, reveal Café Bustelo’s plans to offer multimedia files containing coffee-themed artwork, text, audio, and video, all authenticated by NFT technology.
Additionally, the applications indicate that Café Bustelo aims to provide entertainment services by offering virtual coffee experiences within virtual environments designed for recreational purposes.
Trademark attorney Michael Kondoudis, well-versed in Web3-related filings, shared the news of these trademark applications earlier today.
It’s worth noting that Café Bustelo is not the first coffee brand to explore the opportunities presented by the Web3 space. In fact, back in August 2022, Folgers also filed trademark applications with a similar intent.
Furthermore, the renowned coffeehouse chain Starbucks made waves in September 2022 when it unveiled its inaugural loyalty program based on Web3 technology. Since its launch, Starbucks has successfully released two collections of NFTs under this program. The initial collection sold out within a mere 20 minutes of its release, and they have since followed up with a series of NFT stamps.
