airBaltic, the national airline of Latvia, has unveiled its first-ever event tailored specifically for holders of non-fungible tokens (NFTs) from its inaugural collection.
Launched in October 2022, airBaltic’s collection introduced 10,000 NFTs dubbed “Planies,” serving as exclusive passes to its innovative loyalty program — the “airBaltic Club.”
Now, holders of these NFTs have the opportunity to take part in the “airBaltic Backstage Experience” scheduled for May 17 at airBaltic’s hub in Riga, Latvia.
The event promises a guided tour of airBaltic’s technical maintenance hangar, providing an up-close encounter with aircrafts, as well as a visit to the airBaltic Training Centre, offering insights into pilot and crew training programs, including a chance to experience the flight simulator.
Attendees will also have the chance to meet Martin Gauss, airBaltic’s President and CEO.
Limited to 25 Planies NFT holders, participants will be randomly selected from those expressing interest before March 28 to join this experience.
The initiative is part of airBaltic’s 12-point roadmap for Planies, underscoring the company’s dedication to offering unique rewards and engaging activities for its NFT community.
airBaltic joins a growing cohort of aviation firms recognizing the potential of blockchain technology. The benefits, including heightened transparency in aircraft maintenance, enhanced flight data security, and passenger comfort, alongside improved accuracy, safety, and customer loyalty, are driving this trend.
Many aviation companies are pushing forward with similar initiatives. In August 2023, Lufthansa unveiled an NFT-based loyalty program for passenger rewards, while in March, Flybondi partnered with TravelX to offer flight tickets as NFTs, promising increased flexibility, transparency, and security.
