Retail giant Walmart is delving deeper into the metaverse as it unveils a series of initiatives aimed at enhancing the virtual shopping experience.
Earlier this year, Walmart embarked on a partnership with game developer FUN-GI to introduce players to the world of virtual real estate through the mobile game House Flip.
The collaboration allowed players to immerse themselves in activities such as renovating and selling virtual homes, with the added feature of virtually testing various Glidden paint colors available at Walmart.
Now, in a move aimed at blurring the lines between virtual and physical commerce, Walmart is set to enable in-game purchases of real-world items. This means that players can seamlessly buy physical products either related to their virtual house decoration needs or items they encounter while engrossed in the game.
This integration will allow players to use their Walmart accounts without having to exit the virtual world.
Furthermore, Walmart is expanding its presence in the virtual fashion sector by launching Season 7 of its clothing brand, Scoop, which made its debut in August.
Scoop is set to take over the fashion realm within the mobile virtual world Zepeto, specifically in the fashion space known as Runway Z. Within this digital fashion hub, players have access to a range of virtual goods inspired by Scoop’s designs, allowing them to style their avatars.
These initiatives are just the latest in a series of ventures that Walmart has undertaken in the Web3 space.
Earlier this month, the retail giant collaborated with the Web3 creative studio People of Crypto Lab (POClab) to introduce the “Cultureverse” metaverse experience. In August, Walmart also unveiled an immersive back-to-school metaverse experience on the popular gaming platform Roblox.
